Golden Ram Cichlid (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi)
- Appearance: The Golden Ram Cichlid is admired for its vibrant colors. Males are particularly striking, with a golden-yellow body adorned with blue and red accents. They also have a distinctive blue line running along the edge of their gill covers and a reddish-orange hue on their bellies. Their fins can have a slightly iridescent sheen, adding to their visual appeal.
- Size: Adults typically reach about 2.5 to 3.5 inches (6 to 9 cm) in length.
- Habitat: In the wild, Golden Rams are found in the slow-moving, heavily vegetated waters of the Orinoco and Rio Meta river basins in Venezuela and Colombia. They prefer soft, slightly acidic water and environments with plenty of hiding places and plant cover.
- Behavior: They are relatively peaceful cichlids and are often kept in community tanks with other small, non-aggressive species. They do exhibit some territorial behavior, especially during breeding, but are generally less aggressive than many other cichlid species.
