Black shrimp
This species of shrimp is native to the Indo-Pacific region, including Southeast Asia and Australia. They are known for their black stripes and can grow to be over half a pound. Black tiger shrimp can be found in coastal areas, estuaries, and mangrove forests, and they can also be commercially farmed in ponds or tanks. They grow best in warm brackish waters, which are more saline than freshwater but less than seawater. When cooked, their meat turns white and their stripes turn bright red.
Crystal black shrimp
Also known as black bee shrimp, these shrimp have white bodies with black vertical bands and can grow to be about 1.5 inches in size. They come in different color patterns, with more opaque and white coloration being considered higher grade and more expensive. Crystal black shrimp prefer soft, acidic water that’s free of ammonia and nitrites, and they require regular aquarium maintenance.
Black rose shrimp
These shrimp are available in packs of five or ten, and they can be red, brown, or blue in color.
