The fish’s name comes from the fact that it glows when kept under blue LED or black light, but appears normal under white light. It can display a range of colors, including red, blue, yellow, green, pink, orange, and purple, depending on selective breeding.
Purple widow fish eat most fish foods, such as flakes and pellets, as well as small foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, freeze-dried blood worms, and tubifex. In perfect conditions, they can live to be 3–5 years old.
